Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Humanities Preparatory Academy to provide a philosophical and practical education for all students, an education that features creativity and inquiry, encourages habitual reading and productivity, as well as self-reflection and original thought. We agree with Socrates that the unexamined life is not worth living, and it is our desire to prepare students to live thoughtful and meaningful lives. We are committed to inspiring the love of learning in our students. This mission can best be accomplished in a school that is a democratic community.   As a democratic community, we strive to exemplify the values of democracy: mutual respect, cooperation, empathy, the love of humankind, justice for all, and service to the world.

Daily Announcements

Dear students,

The teachers and staff at Humanities Prep are looking forward to the beginning of the new school year and seeing familiar and new faces. It is very important that students attend the first full day of school Wednesday, September 8th because we have important orientation/programming/policy information to share with you!  We're sure that all of you are all eager to know what classes you have been programmed in, see your friends and teachers, and know about the recent schedule and policy changes. For newcomers, we want to ensure all of you get oriented to the school community.

Like every day at Prep, school starts promptly at 9am. Please be aware that school will be closed on Thursday, September 9th and Friday September 10th. School will resume on September 12, 2010.

Welcome to the youngest member of the Prep family, Kai Noble Hallsson, the son of our beloved science teacher Pam Hallsson and her husband Bjorn. Kai was born this August and the entire Prep family is elated about this joyous occasion in your lives. Pam will be missed this fall Pam, but we all look forward to your return this Spring.

xoxo, Prep
