Welcome

FROM THE DESK OF THE CAREER & COLLEGE COUNSELOR

As we embark on this school year, I would like to  prepare you for the next steps towards getting your child to graduation and college. During the senior year, you take the time to discuss post-secondary school plans with your child. 12th grade is the time for admission to college and to apply for federal student aid by filling out the Free Application for Student Aid, FAFSA.

To assist your child in making the best decision, I will be providing all seniors with college information and websites on their Schoology Senior and College and Career Exploration group for juniors and seniors. The information provided to students will include  links to the City University of New York (CUNY) application, State University of New York (SUNY) application as well as the Common Application process. Students are responsible for filling out their own college applications. I will be there to assist them through this process and to review their applications when complete before they submit them. Please encourage your child to schedule an appointment so I can review their application. Additionally, I meet with students during advisory, and they should be actively involved in completing their applications.

To stay on track at this busy time of year, I have attached a checklist to assist you and information on federal student aid. The financial aid process has to be done with personal information from parent and child. I provided a list of documents you will need and steps on how to apply for financial aid using the online Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). . You should submit your FAFSA by the earliest financial aid deadline of the schools to which your child is applying, usually by early February. Also, please go to http://www.understandingfafsa.org and click on your preferred language for step by step details on completing FAFSA.

Please feel free to contact me with questions via email at [email protected].

Educationally Yours,
